The Lava Centre is an interactive, high-tech educational exhibition depicting volcanic activity, earthquakes and the creation of Iceland over millions of years.
The eruption in Geldingadalir adjacent to Mt Fagradalsfjall started happening on March 19, 2021, after being quiet for over six thousand years. It is the first active volcano in the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark area for 800 years.
This project collects data from this period, such as seismic and volcanic activity throughout the country and along the Reykjanes peninsula, leading up to the recent eruption.
